No One Eats Alone

Date: 02/15/19

On Friday February 15, 2019, Trillium Community Health Plan partnered with Siuslaw Middle School in Florence to celebrate No One Eats Alone® Day. This event was created by the non-profit Beyond Differences™.

Social isolation is a preventable public-health crisis that affects millions of students. It can lead to bullying, self harm, and community violence.  However, when students are given the right tools, they will often stand up for others.

Trillium hosted an interactive assembly where sixth grade students learned about social isolation. They explored how it can negatively affect health and academic performance. Next the sixth graders were encouraged to eat lunch with classmates outside their normal circle of friends. The eigth grade leadership class helped with this activity.

Students also signed a pledge to be a friend on a large banner that will hang in the multipurpose room of the school. Trillium gave a reusable lunch bag to each student as a reminder that “No One Eats Alone.”

Siuslaw Middle School was one of more than 2,250 schools across the country that celebrated National No One Eats Alone Day. The initiative included more than 1 million students in all 50 states.
