Reminder: DEA Training Requirement
On December 29, 2022, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 enacted a new one-time, eight-hour training requirement for all Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered practitioners on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This new requirement took effect June 27, 2023. Practitioners are required to check a box on their online DEA registration form—regardless of whether a registrant is completing their initial registration application or renewing their registration—affirming that they have completed the new training requirement. For more information, please review this letter from the DEA.
If you have not yet completed this training requirement, you can access these resources for more information about the requirement and available training:
- OHSU: MATE Act Required Training for DEA Licensees
- Free CME from The AAFP: Members can access the training for free by completing a module called Substance Use Disorders Edition 2

Effective February 1, 2025: Trillium Re-Opens Applications for Medicaid Flexible Services Requests
Trillium will accept new applications for flexible services requests for Medicaid members beginning February 1, 2025.
Flexible services are items or services that support a Medicaid member’s health, though are not covered by the Oregon Health Plan or processed through standard medical billing. While the Oregon Health Authority does not require coordinated care organizations to offer flexible services, Trillium opts to make flexible services available to our members as part of our ongoing commitment to increase access to care.
Flexible services funding may be used to pay for non-covered healthcare services including physical health, mental health, behavioral health, oral health, and tribal-based services. Flexible services must increase desired health outcomes and be grounded in evidence-based medicine or widely accepted best clinical practice.
Examples of flexible services requests include:
- Rental assistance or sober living facilities for members who don’t qualify through the Health-Related Social Needs housing benefit
- Climate devices for members who don’t qualify through the Health-Related Social Needs climate benefit
- Move-in expenses
- Community Warehouse furniture
- Hotel stays for high-risk/post-hospital discharge or during climate emergencies
- Utilities
- Gym/pool access
- Phones or tablets to access care
- New baby supplies (cribs, strollers, car seats)
- Clothing and shoes for members experiencing homelessness
Examples of items or services that do not qualify for flexible services:
- Request for reimbursement
- Copayments, medical payments, out-of-network provider payments and any other items or services covered under your health plan
- Mortgage payments and homeowners insurance
- Car payments, car insurance and car repairs
- Credit card payments and loan payments
- Fees: Pet, legal, collection, guardianship
How to help a Trillium member apply for flexible services
